Whisky from Switzerland
Whisky has not been produced in Switzerland for long. Until 1999 it was forbidden to produce spirits from basic foodstuffs such as potatoes or grain. For this reason, Swiss distilleries had to specialise in fruit brandies and the like. But when the law was repealed, many distilleries saw an opportunity and started to produce whisky. The accumulated know-how of the distilleries was of great benefit to them.
In the meantime, Swiss whisky has established itself and has already produced some excellent varieties. However, really old, valuable Swiss whisky does not exist at the moment, because these products are maturing slowly and will only be on the market in a few years.
