Whisky from Scotland Blended
A blended whisky is a mixture (blend) of different whiskies. Either exclusively malt whiskies or a mixture of malt and grain whiskies can be used. A blended whisky usually contains 15-40 individual whiskies, but mixtures with more than 50 whiskies from different distilleries are also possible. More mature whiskies are usually used for premium blends. After blending, the blend must be stored in a cask for some time to allow the individual whiskies to combine in taste. During this time the corresponding blend should always mature in the same casks so that it slowly takes over the flavour of the cask.
The main part of the whiskies produced in Scotland are blends, whereby the single malt has steadily gained in popularity in recent years. The main reason for making blends is to create a whisky that has a consistent taste and quality over a long period of production.
