There are 11 botanicals in MGC gin. The high notes are the citruses; the really aromatic numbers and the base notes are the rooty botanicals which hold the flavour long after the high notes have disappeared. The blending, like winemaking, is about reaching a harmony so that the sum of all parts is better than the individual components. In perfume making, orris root and sandalwood are used as fixative agents. They hold the higher citrusy notes to the skin for longer.
