Peru is not really a traditional rum country. Normally the rum comes from warm, humid regions in Central America, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean. But in Peru, the Chiclayo and Cartavio regions on the coast of northern Peru offer excellent conditions for sugar cane cultivation. For many decades, only the Peruvians themselves and a few real rum connoisseurs were aware that the Peruvian coast is the area of origin of some high-quality rum brands. However, since the entrepreneur Fabio Rossi took on the revival of Ron Millionario in 2004, the popularity of Peruvian rum has increased on an international level and is now appreciated by rum lovers all over the world.
