Costa Rica is located between Panama and Nicaragua and is the home of the famous Centenario Rum. The volcanic soil of Costa Rica and the special climate provide an optimal basis for the cultivation of sugar cane. The sugar cane grows in Costa Rica for about 15 months, is then harvested by hand with a machete and finally pressed according to traditional methods. Afterwards the sugar cane harvest is transported to the western Pacific coast where the rum production takes place. Although the economic importance of sugar cane has been declining for some time now, rum from Costa Rica is still highly valued. It is considered to be an insiders' tip, especially by connoisseurs, and can be compared with both the rum from Nicaragua and the rum from Panama.
